There are many types of
diamonds sold around the world, and people know most of them by name. However, there are an even wider variety that you may not come across in your travels or thought to ask your
jeweler about.
GIA Certified HPHT Diamonds
You’ve probably heard by now that GIA does not certify synthetic
diamonds, and that is true. Natural HPHT
diamonds are an entirely different type of
diamond. However, an HPHT pressure set
diamond ring may be just the thing you are looking for if real
diamonds cost too much to be effectively out of your reach. They exude beauty and permanence, and are usually of a
clarity grade higher than VVS2.
Laser Drilled Diamonds
A laser drilled or LD stone is one where single or multiple dark inclusions have been removed using a microscopic laser. The laser creates a channel, which is used to flush out the inclusion, and which does not let any dirt contaminate the inside. This allows a
clarity improvement to the tune of one grade, such as from SI2 to SI1.
Clarity Enhanced Diamonds
Clarity enhancement is misunderstood in many circles, in part due to the flood of misleading articles found on the internet. CE
diamonds, when processed in the right way, make for a cost effective and beautiful gem purchase.
